CHOI MACE was not born into a rich family, nor was he born with good pedigree. He was a mutt; a mix of whatever had existed at the time, barely fortunate enough to have a single parent that worried about his wellbeing enough to raise him, feed him, and send him to school. He knew that his life was written out for him by some invisible playwright long before he was ever truly conscious of everything that the world had to offer. He knew that he was doomed to life in the backstreets of Seoul, living in a shitty apartment with tiny windows leveled with the rest of the surface world.He blames — thanks? — it on a freak accident that would be seen by most as an unfortunate event, yet for Mace and his family, it was the one and only way that they could've gotten out of their dystopian banjiha with an actual shot at changing the trajectory of their lives. The news arrived in the middle of the afternoon in the form a text. It was from an unknown number; Mace's mother nearly dismisses it as an elaborate scam message, one of those Nigerian prince needs your help moving his diamonds type of scams that any modern human would scoff at. What caught her attention, though, was the name tucked in the middle of the paragraph, in striking English text compared to the rest of the message.최세진 (SEJIN CHOI-TAN)이 세상을 떠났으며 최세진 가족을 유언장에 포함시켰음을 알려드립니다. 그녀의 유언장 낭독 시 귀하의 참석을 요청합니다. 아래의 추가 지침을 참조하세요.(This is a message to inform you that CHOI SEJIN (now SEJIN CHOI-TAN) has passed away and included the CHOI family in her will. Your presence is requested at the reading of her will. Please see further instructions below.)Doubtful as they all were, they decided to reply to the text. They were shit out of luck, anyway; Mace had just graduated high school and had no way of paying for a college education, while his sister was still in elementary. To their surprise, a response popped up an hour after they responded, giving them instructions on how they must secure a passport by the end of the month, and that the plane tickets would be provided by the estate of Choi Sejin, should they lack the funds to do so themselves. (Who the fuck was Choi Sejin, anyway? Mace had no idea, but he was loving her deceased ass at the moment.)The rush to get their papers done before the end of the month was stressful at the very least, but it was well worth it. The message wasn't a scam, after all; Mace's mother knew Sejin. She was her older sister-in-law, estranged from the rest of his father's shitty family. While Mace was entirely unaware, his mother had been in contact with Sejin until her death, and Sejin — childless as she was — swore that she would leave all her worldly possessions to her growing niece and nephew, leaving none for the family that had abandoned her when she needed them most, just as how Mace's father had done to them.Sejin left her house, her money, and everything else to Mace's mother, allowing them to rebuild their lives in the Philippines and completely start anew. He was able to begin pursuing a college education this way, luckily getting into a prestigious university after taking a gap year to adjust and prepare for everything that was soon to come his way.

Because of Mace's striking looks, his English-speaking skills, and his bubbly personality, he was often tagged to be a speaker in small university-wide events that would require a host. After a particular event that had ample of local news coverage, his popularity skyrocketed — his Instagram followers spiked to hundreds of thousands, and his messages were filled with agents that wanted to recruit him into their respective entertainment agencies. The offers ranged from asking him about his singing and dancing talents, and even about whether or not he could play instruments. He could only play the violin and the drums — an odd combination that rooted from a need to be 'unique' as a child, yet his mediocre violin skills seemed to be enough for a certain recruiter to include him in a small television drama for a minor role: the son of a rich family who was also their token virtuoso.He didn't want to chalk it all up to luck, but he was certain that some kind of guardian angel was on his shoulder because his career began to skyrocket. Exhausted as he was with his studies, his schedule also began to fill up with acting gigs and small photoshoots, continuing to pick up the pace until his career became solid — all under the age of 20. He's nearly 23 now with only great things ahead of him, but will he be able to sustain his popularity while continuing to do well in every other aspect of his life?
